This is how to create a simple disaster recovery plan for your employees.

Before creating this plan, make sure you have the following three things in place.

First, a list of business critical assets.

Second, a list of potential disasters that could impact your business.

And third, a document describing what the impact is on those business critical assets from the disaster.

I want you to enter this exercise with your employees in mind.

Who are they? Where would they go? What would they do?

Start by separating your employees into location department or job function, whatever makes sense.

Then create a table and list the disaster the group of employees and the actions that group would have to take when the disaster happens.

Do this for every potential disaster and every employee group within your company.

Introduce this plan to your employees and then put it in a place they can bookmark it with their smartphones.

When disaster strikes, your employees will be that much more prepared to keep both themselves and your business running.

How have you prepared your employees for a disaster?
