Video Transcription

I'm sorry to have to tell you this…
But you have a virus.
How did you get it, you ask?

Hmmm…
Have you been scanning strange QR codes with your phone lately?

Yup. That's what I thought.

During the Superbowl this year, many of you did it… you raised your phone to scan that QR code that was bouncing around the screen and gave you $15 in Bitcoin, just for signing up to Coinbase.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, it seems like QR codes are everywhere.

But how can you know if they are SAFE to scan?

Here are some risks of engaging in STRANGE QR Code scanning…

A malicious QR code can:

Trigger an exploit on your phone.

Start a phone call to a predefined number, putting you at greater risk of SIM-jacking.

With a little social engineering, initiate a text message that could expose your data to a threat actor.

Do the same thing with an email message!

Send your phone's geo-location to a threat actor.

Take you to a malicious web site designed to install malware onto your phone or harvest your private information.

Initiate a social media "FOLLOW" for someone you DO NOT want to be following.

Connect you to a dangerous WiFi network.

Initiate a malicious app download on your phone.

The RISKS are many!

But, there is hope….

And the doctor is here to SHOW YOU how to stay SAFE!

Watch the video to find out how to safely engage in QR code scanning!
